Why handwriting still matters for the Armenian alphabet
Armenian has 39 letters, and a good number of them are close cousins on the page — ո and օ, ղ and դ, ճ and ձ, ը and ը's neighbours. Reading them apart is one skill; producing them from memory is a different one, and the second is what handwriting builds. Children who only ever tap letters on a screen tend to recognise the alphabet long before they can write it.
These worksheets follow the usual tracing pattern: each line starts with three faded letters to trace, then leaves the rest of the line blank so the child forms the letter unaided. The ruled option adds a baseline and a dashed midline, which is what most Armenian schools use to teach consistent letter height. Turn the rules off for older learners who no longer need them.
The letters, their order and their romanization come from the same course data Haylingua teaches from, so a child practising here is practising exactly what the lessons use. All 39 letters are included, in the standard modern order — with ՈՒ in position 34 and և at 37.
Questions about the worksheets
Are the Armenian handwriting worksheets free?
Yes, completely. There is no signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many you generate or print. Teachers are welcome to print class sets.
How do I save them as a PDF?
Press Print, then in the print dialog change the destination to "Save as PDF" (Chrome, Edge) or use the PDF button (Safari, Firefox). You get the same file a PDF download would give you.
Can I print just a few letters?
Yes. Pick a range — 1–10, 11–20, 21–30, 31–39 — or just the vowels or consonants. One letter set per sheet keeps it manageable for young children.
Which Armenian alphabet is this?
The modern Eastern Armenian alphabet, all 39 letters in standard order, matching what is taught in Armenia. Western Armenian uses the same letters, so the worksheets work for both — only the pronunciation of some letters differs.
What are the guide lines for?
The solid baseline and dashed midline help a child keep letters at a consistent height and sitting on the line, which is the hardest part of early handwriting. Switch to Plain once that is no longer a problem.
Can I use these in my Armenian school or class?
Please do. They are free to print and hand out for any educational use, at home or in a classroom. A link back to the page is appreciated but not required.
